Together, they look to me a fantastic match and judging from how they are together, i’m sure all who know them would agree. Now about cool.. met them about slightly under 2 months prior to their wedding – they had waited to meet up with me for quite some time (my bad – was up to my nose with assignments, etc) and when we finally did, i found out that theirs was to be a Hindu ceremony. So based on my experience, i asked, “so will it be the 2 hour ceremony or the 45 minutes ceremony”. To my amazement, “15 minutes” came the reply from Dina.. and i thought to myself, “ok, cool!”

Next, they asked me if i could shoot an event that was really important to them and i said sure, thinking it would be the registration or engagement. So, “What event, and where?” i enquired.. “Oh, just us and some friends partying at the place where we first met” came the reply from Jamie this time.. and i thought to myself, “ok, cool!”

And then came the wedding day.. I turned up to begin covering Jamie’s make-up and preparations and found that she and friends were in a very “Happy” state.. again, i thought to myself, “ok, very cool!”.. and as we went along, the trend continued..

As i now sit and type this blog update, I find that reflecting on the experience with this cool couple, that there is only one way to describe it.. It was a very very cool experience. Cheers to you guys Jamie & Dina!

Sitting down with Harith to discuss the details of the wedding that i would cover, he appeared excited, excitement u so often see in teenagers when speaking of a love interest. I was suprised, i mean common, this is Harith Iskander we’re talking about.. the presence, the ability to walk into a room and make 300 people laugh to tears, those alone gave me the impression that he would be a “cool customer”.. usually unfazed by much. To that end, I found Harith Iskander a very down to earth person, a person that in my opinion doesn’t feel the need to put up a “superstar” front, and i thought to myself, “this is refreshing!”.

With the ice broken, we got talking and doing what i do, it’s always a question that i was going to ask.. “so how did u guys meet?..”. “Fate” came his answer. He explains that he’s a firm believer in fate and that everyting happens for a reason, something i happen to agree with.

On meeting Jezamine, he shared that approx 2 years ago, he had been offered a role by a foreign production company but had rejected them on no less than 3 occassions. Finally, the company decided to sent their own representatives to meet with Harith in KL. Upon the discussions, Harith finally decided to take up the role. The production would see him shooting on site in Klang for long stretches at a time and in between shoots, he came across Jez’s pic in FHM and wondered who she was. He sent her a message, she replied (at this point, Harith has that funny expression of surprise on his face), and turns out his shoot site was literally 5 minutes away from where she lived! They hooked up for tea, and the rest is history..

But here’s the good part.. SHE HAD NO IDEA WHO HARITH ISKANDER WAS!! (now, it was me with the super surprised expression on my face!).. Here we have 2 people whose faces are prob among the most recognisable in the country and they both had no idea who the other was.. and that’s prob why Harith seemed like a teenager when talking about the love of his life, for this is well and truly a modern day fairy tale.

In terms of photography, i’m honoured and glad to have been officially engaged by Harith and Jezamine to not only cover the Pre-Wedding Portraits and Actual Day ceremonies, but also all the preparatory events along the way too.. wedding planners meeting, fitting for gowns, picking out the rings, etc, so keep in here in the JVP blog for each and every update..

Below are a selection of shots for the 1st post in the Preparatory series, the 1st Wedding Planners Meeting.. enjoy..

It all began with us jetting in on the 15th of April in the morning, and then settling in at our respective rooms at the very impressive Four Points Hotel (by Sheraton) in Kuching. At 2pm we moved on The Spring for a press conference arranged by The Spring to introduce the group. In what was to be the 1st of 3 days that we would spend there, the first session was rather brief and was done in a mere 40 minutes. Later in the evening, we returned for the Lauch and Opening of the “All about Weddings” Fair, which was eventful with Bridal Fashion Shows showcasing the beautiful designs from the talented artists from That Special Occassion, Kris Wong and Louisa Michaels. There was also an Auction of a dress designed by Kris Wong, which eventually fetched RM1,300 for the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Association. There were to be a further 2 items to Auction as Charlie Lim “donated” 2 sessions of his infamous “Light Painting” sessions. Both fetched a total of almost RM2,000 for the same association.

Over the other 2 days, wedding photography talks were conducted by Patrick, Charlie, Peter and myself in what i consider a wonderfully organised and very well received event. Pictures of the event below are courtesy of Edwin Lay from CW Weddings.

As we had already had our lunch when had gotten there, I can’t really comment on the food (but i am sure it is absolutely fantastic judging from the free smells one gets when making their way from the front dining area, to the chill out area at the back of the lot. However, as a photographer, this place is heaven! There are so very many angles, props, colours, moody lighting, etc that were considering extending our stay for another night just so we could continue to shoot. It was a joy indeed and a place that i will surely be playing a visit to the next time i’m in town.. Thanks Alvin for bringing us there. Fast forward to the day of the shoot, i had anticipated that the session would be challenging what with attention span of children being short and what not. However, it turned out that Zhang Jin was a natural and was easy going, as his parents are. Here’s a selection of shots from the session.

A big thanks too to all those who’ve extended much appreciated (although not always shown) help in ventures and efforts of mine in the wedding industry, as well as in my personal endeavours. Along with the note of thanks, I will not disguise the fact that in the process some of these ventures and efforts, there are individuals that I might have wronged and hurt – to all of you, I extend my sincere apologies.

In evaluating all that has taken place in 2009, I find that a new direction in some areas are needed in order to achieve our goals. And with optimism and energy for improvement, i look forward to pushing on to achieve these goals. Being a sportperson, it was only natural that he would meet and later marry a sportsperson too – enter Aunty Angeline, the sprinter. She was quick, and apparently that’s how she always kept Uncle Pete within range (lol). But jest aside, she has the smalest of voices but yet when she spoke, people would listen – for she also had the sweetest of voices. Together, they were quite a combination, Uncle Pete with his stern look and loud voice (but always following up with a big laugh that was comforting) and Aunty Angeline with her sweet little voice. They were kind, loving, caring and everything nice..

To Uncle Pete and Aunty Angeline, Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary! May there be many many more..

They were childhood sweethearts and have been together almost forever. And to make it even more impressive, Kevin was based half way across the world.. but instead of out of sight, out of mind, it was instead very much the opposite.. the absence kept them more in love than ever.

From the time that i’ve spent with them, I found Valen to be a very sweet lady, but not to be mistaken as quiet or timid cause the girl knows how to let her hair down and have fun. Kevin is a guy who’s all smiles, one of those who’s able to take a positive look at even the most bleak of situations. Working with them was nothing short of a pleasant experience as i kept feeding of their positive energy which made shooting their big day more enjoyable than most.

They’ve since moved back to LA and i’d like to wish them a fantastic new beginning together. For me, they’ve demonstrated what love can and should be.. and that is to stand the test of time and distance.. Here’s a few shots from their big day.. 

Amy is one of the nicest people you can meet.. soft spoken and always greeting you with a smile that is both warm and welcoming. When together, i found that this couple absolutely fantastic as on perhaps one of the biggest days of their lives, they had not forgotten the reason that they exist, and that is to honour and appreciate their parents by way of having prepared and dedicated a special slideshow to their respective parents. That was a nice touch i thought as i stood in the ballroom watching the well prepared slideshow and more importantly, having a child of my own, i could appreciate the gesture.

It was a beautiful wedding for the people had made it so, not so much the details, but for the fact that they are a couple that from the short time i had to observe, are truly people who appreciates life and everything about it. I felt honoured to have had the opportunity to be there to witness and capture the moments for not only 2 beautiful people, but a whole family of them.
